QuickBooks 2014 for Mac Reviews

| | 11 komentar

I like the way the homescreen can be sized and moved to cover the whole screen in 2014. I keep mine covering the screen, it's a lot easier to move around in QuickBooks for Mac that way. I also like the Income Tracker because all customer activity is in one place so I can see what I need to be doing next to bring cash into the business, and that's always what needs to be done first and last every day, so it helps me to stay focused on my most important tasks. There is online banking, attached documents, and I could go on and on, but the Income Tracker is what makes this new 2014 version worth spending a few dollars on.

Without sending my file into Intuit, the migration path was supposed to be from Quicken -> QB 2014 Windows -> QB 2014 Mac. I'm not able to load my Quicken file in Windows (because of a separate problem with the Windows version), so I've only had the chance to play with the Mac software with the sample file for a few hours.

In reading some of the documentation, I've discovered that the Mac version does not support multiple currencies, something that's a deal breaker for me. It also means that the resulting file from QB Windows wont work.

Also the link at the bottom of the Amazon description of this product seems to describe Quickbooks 2013 and not 2014 (www.useqb.com/Switch2Mac). The webpage offers a trial version of 2013 and not 2014.

I really want this product to be successful. However, Intuit needs to really bring parity of features between the Mac and Windows version before many of us can use it. I'm itching to move my payroll over to Intuit from ADP for the tight integration -- but still waiting.

  2. Stay away from QuickBooks if you can. This software constantly stops working with your banking and you are left not being able to log in to pay any of your bills. You will spend HOURS on the phone with technical support and still not have a solution. You will end up manually doing your bookkeeping until it starts working again THEN you have the mess of having everything duplicated and double/triple pay bills until you can stop all of the transactions. Tech support will keep you on the phone for greater than 6 hours then just hang up on you and not call you back.

  3. This software is incredibly difficult to understand. The Little Square offers help but it hasn't actually helped solved any of my problems. We own a small drive thru deli and need to be able to input our sales and sales tax, but it won't seem to let us do that. It also says that we can link our banking or download our transactions, but it won't actually let me do that either. My bank is not supported so I have to manually enter every transaction. I could have created an excel spreadsheet to do that for free. Not sure yet what the benefit of paying $200 for this item is.

(REAL NAME)    Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I was using quickbooks for PC and it is so much better. My reports would not transfer over and I cannot get the customized reports to work on the MAC version. Also, payroll is a complete mess. The only option is to do a monthly service which will cost me an extra $240/year

The manufacturer commented on the review belowSee comments 21 of 21 people found the following review helpful 2.0 out of 5 stars It's Okay, But There Are Issues!, October 30, 2013 By DigMar - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I upgraded from QuickBooks Mac 2012 to QB Mac 2014, (Skipped v 2013) and while there are some positive upgrades, there are some, "Features" that are problematic as far as I'm concerned.

First the Pro's though: I like the refreshed options, Income Tracker, new reports, and sales tax adjusting, and honestly it seems to be a bit faster on my iMac than the 2012 version.

Now onto the Cons: Intuit promotes that QB Mac 2014 now has a, "New Left Hand Toolbar" to supposedly let you, "Move around QuickBooks even faster than before." Can you say, "NOT"! It's a complete downgrade in my opinion. It has slowed us down for sure.

I guess the software engineers at Intuit thought that removing all of the menu items and titles from the top of the screen, and then throwing them to the "Left" in icon form, would magically cause everyone to work faster. Good grief. Now you can no longer see descriptions under the icons of what they are. (Just icons unless you expand the menu) I'm constantly hunting in the new vertical "expanding" menus for things that used to be simple to find.

Lest you think you could just go from the new default vertical menu back to the horizontal one, think again! That's not an option anymore. From reading forum threads, apparently this was a complaint in the beta version, and was requested by many to be an option - they must not have agreed.

Now, the unintended consequence of this "menu migration", is that you no longer know what company you're in if you manage multiple companies.

Unlike QB 2012 Mac that used to have "Your Company Name" at the top of the screen always displayed in the horizontal menu, now, there's nothing there at all. No company name at the top, not on the side, not on the bottom. Nowhere. I was told to keep the Home Page open; it has the company name there. Really, that's the answer?

I don't operate from the "Home Page", unless it's for a quick view of sales or payables. I don't pay bills, write checks, create purchase orders, enter quotes, etc. from the home page. I do, however, always have my checking ledger open for example, since I'm always working there!

Without the company name at the top, or somewhere on the screen, (When the home page isn't open) you have no idea what company is open, and we're absolutely going to make entry errors, no matter how careful we are - guaranteed. Intuit generally makes the software better with each revision, but they do have a unique knack for removing useful features and tools at the same time.

I found a work around to keep my check ledgers from getting screwed up. Not the best, but it works. I went to the "Chart of Accounts", right clicked on the checking account and chose, "Edit Account". I then added a description in the company name. So for example, now my checking account name reads, "My Company Name - Bank Name". I shouldn't have to come up with this kind of workaround on software that's been around this long, but it should at least help keep us from data entry errors.

Simply stated, the vertical menu is a nuisance. The lack of displaying the company name at the top is a fundamental flaw that is unacceptable, and WILL lead to mistakes for people who manage multiple company books. For these reasons, I can only give it two stars until these issues are addressed.

  6. QuickBooks 2014 for Mac (Software) This Quickbooks for Mac, has no feature to allow you to manually do payroll without paying a "fee" minimum of $20.00 per month. I purchased a Mac and spent way more money than a Windows Desktop, specifically for our business. And I cannot even use the program the way it SHOULD be designed to be used. I am very disgusted with this program, and wish I would have known this sooner, I however found out the hard way, and tried to do payroll, and waited a total of 45 minutes on hold with Intuit, only to find that even if I do payroll myself, and have an accountant that does my tax filing, I have to pay the $20.00 a month. That is over $200.00 a year to pay our maximum of 5 employees. Just beware if you purchase this product, you cannot do payroll without paying an additional fee! It already cost over $200.00 for the program. I have Quickbooks on my old Windows computer, and will be installing software so that I can run the Windows version of QB on my Mac. I think that Intuit has made a HUGE mistake!!

(REAL NAME)    QuickBooks 2014 for Mac (Software) Quickbooks as use for my business accounting is my primary application on my Mac. Ironically, where most PC/Mac software offerings are designed, Apple Mac Version tend to best their PC counterpart (including Microsoft products). However Quickbooks is the sole exception to this rule. Any google search will show a long history of Intuits dysfunctional ability since the very first version to address the needs for a professional accounting solution on the mac platform.

The latest 2014 and the Broken 2013 ability to contact sync is HUGE problem. It has been a HUGE problem since the first product version. Why the software designers have not figured out the programming to incorporate into the core address book database where EVERY OTHER software has been able to do is beyond me.

Why they never seem to understand the extremely high value of sync to a single address database is major cause for concern.

  8. Please beware of software that is originally made for PC and now says it works for MAC.

After installing it twice and paying my book keeper for 2 1/2 hours to try to get it working, then working with Intuit Tech the program almost but not completely worked.

My Bad... my QB support book keeper told me that she hated QB on MAC but since I am retiring all my PC in favor of MAC it had to move over. Now I am fighting with Intuit to just get my money back.

Gotta go and call them again!!!!

The manufacturer commented on the review belowSee comments 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful 1.0 out of 5 stars quickbooks for Mac misses the mark, November 7, 2013 By Jill Ford - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Trying to follow the instructions, computer has required a couple of force quits, and hour on the phone with a gentleman who was of very little help, and his only solution was to suggest I hire someone. Why don't I just hire a bookkeeper???

I downloaded transactions from my checking account in a qbo file, the first time I did that it froze and I couldn't close it, required a force quit. Did it again, they show up in something that looks like a check register, but they are not in the account they were downloaded to. Asian gentleman on the phone says "you have to transfer them into the register" but cannot tell me how to do it. And there is nothing on screen that gives me the first clue. Tells me to hire someone.
Just for fun, did a search for a local pro and a search for quickbooks for mac turns up NO ONE within 30 miles of me!
    Sorry-Do you refund?
I used Quickbooks for PC for years without these problems...
