Quicken Deluxe 2014 Reviews

| | 7 komentar

Quicken 2014 did not hurt me, whew! I say that because Quicken 2013 was a nightmare, and yet it was a relief from 2012 which completely messed up my favorite feature, the budget. I update Quicken every year as I have since the early 1990's. I've long since given up looking for new features. Now what I look for is a product that brings back the ones I used to like, makes them quicken and merges with mint as a single product. I use Quicken for all of my accounts as I do mint. Each brings something to the table. Don't waste your time on the quicken mobile version. Use mint for that. I'm afraid to even try it this year. After synching, it really messed up data in 2013.

So, here are the new "features" I'm observing in 2014:

1. It installed quickly and ran right away, converting my data without complaint.

2. One step update still works! It still has the checkbox for only showing the summary dialog if no errors, but there are always errors. Only now it shows errors but when I expand the list everything is green! In other words it things something is wrong but is keeping it from me.

3. The budget is still there, looks exactly the same but is a bit more sluggish. Must be lots of stuff going on behind the scenes.

4. All those shortcut keys that have been there for years and years no longer work! For example, hit ctl-g or ctl-f from the register and the computer goes booooinngg and nothing else happens! I think you have some focus issues to fix because the menus still show the keys available.

5. After one step update the register still returns you to the end, not to the current day marker, something I've hoped for for years and seems obvious as I add data way ahead of the current date. Doesn't everyone?

6. The budget still likes to randomly place you anywhere in the budget which is just a glorified, slower spreadsheet just like before.

7. Registers scroll a little more sluggishly, sweet! And, to top that off, it scrolls ahead on you so that if you lean a little too hard on the scroll keys you'll find yourself back in 2004!

Sorry that this is such a sarcastic review, but I'm assuming that all of this was intentional. Any SQA person would have noticed these things in the first 10 minutes so they must be features, not bugs.

By the way, I still recommend Quicken to people (and mint), but only because there is no competition, which I'm sure comes up in the release go/no-go meetings as a decision point.

During a year of Quicken 2013 I suffered through a of transactions landing in an [Unspecified Account]. I bought 2014 believing Intuit that 2014 would be an improvement over 2013. Absolutely no improvement! I wish that Google would move into the personal finance arena so that Inuit would be forced to improve the quality of their products and to innovate.

I am disappointed I still cannot see my investment accounts in the mobile version of Quicken like I can in the mobile version of Mint!? Bottom-line: Quicken 2014 is not a good product and a terrible customer experience.

(REAL NAME)    Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I don't know why I always bother to upgrade every year. Always the releases are too early and buggy. Many of the same issues I had with last year's version. The reports, particularly the ones I took many hours to customize are not working. Reports for Actual v. Budget (the ones that come stock) do not work.... Fills in my budget amounts, but displays NOTHING in actual? WTF??? Setup for the Quicken 2014 App was a huge pain in the a$$. Alot of difficulties connecting to several of my financial institutions. After 2 hours of install, uninstall, activate, deactivate, change logins, etc..... I finally got it to work. And I really don't know why, personally I think the app is a waste of time. Considering the app is a big feature for the upgrade, I would advise most not to waste money on this upgrade.

Quicken Deluxe 2014 (Software) Too bad there is not a zero rating available to give this. Does anyone know if there is a competing personal finance software option?
Really, I should not have needed to upgrade... I am not asking Quicken 2010 to connect to my bank. I am happy manually downloading a quicken file from my bank to my hard drive and hand feeding it to Quicken.... but no... that does not fit their business model... So I bought this "not ready for prime time" 2014 version. It converted my old file... and now crashes every time I try to open my checking account data....
But at least it is polite….

  4. Like many others I've been using Quicken since the DOS days but after all the negative reviews for the 2013 version I was reluctant to update. I usually upgrade every few years and finally decided to take the plunge for 2014 from 2011. I had no problems at all and I also installed the iPhone and iPad apps without issue. I may not do some of the advanced things others do but for me it was easy. I only gave it 4 stars because although easy, there isn't much new that's important to me over 2011 but I like being current.

The manufacturer commented on the review belowSee comments 15 of 16 people found the following review helpful 2.0 out of 5 stars Can't tell yet, October 3, 2013 By Dennis Powers - See all my reviews Early experience is not very good. I have been using Quicken since converting Managing your Money around 1990. The bugs have gotten worse and worse each year. I have even hoped for someone to come out with something to replace Quicken with a quality modern product. I downloaded this afternoon and it was pretty flawless. The file conversion was pretty flawless. So I was thinking, no bugs finally. Well, the main reason I decided to try it was some simple updates for mobile use. The Quicken Cloud just gives me an unexpected error. About 1 minute into it. Its nothing more than what has been happening for several years. There might be a fix for this soon but Intuit, trust me that this is a problem. I'm a person that wants the latest so I go ahead and get it. For the last 5 years I get nothing but bugs. Your GUI is not much changed. I have a feeling this is a going out of business scenario. I hope i'm wrong. Please fix this stuff Intuit.
Here is an update. There is a workaround for the cloud sync which is to unlink the budget. It has solved the problem however there is no budget link at this time.
New issue is that when i clicked "done" after reconciling my downloads, the program closes. Will see if that continues. i will keep my review at 2 stars until this works properly.

  6. The manufacturer commented on the review belowSee comments 77 of 85 people found the following review helpful 3.0 out of 5 stars Definitely an Initial Release based on Performance, September 27, 2013 By David Kipperman (Middletown, CT United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I downloaded Quicken 2014 as soon as it became available. I upgraded from 2013 based on the new features that were available (namely the scanning of receipts from the mobile app). I realized that this feature wouldn't be available until the Quicken Mobile App was updated, and that is fine.

While using the app, I noticed that there were a bunch of new features around budgeting that I was exciting to see (budgeting using cents, creating custom category groupings, detailed loan payments [similar to how your paycheck is rolled into one category]). However, the budget screen is so buggy and unusable, I had to uninstall it and retrieve my 2013 backup and go back to Quicken 2013. It seems the budget totals have a very hard time recalculating when I change the budget amounts, namely when changing income categories. When trying to zero out a category, I would have to change it to another amount first before it would allow me to change it to zero. Also, there were instances when I would change one category amount, have it not accept the change, only to see said change appear on another random category. Also, when trying to create new budget groups and getting the categories organized, I noticed that the groups (I created two) appeared twice in my budget grouping list.

I guess this software isn't really ready for primetime, hence why it isn't even advertised on Quicken's own website as of today (9/27/2013), a couple of days after it became available on Amazon.

I will be waiting until the mobile app is released before I reinstall 2014. Perhaps then, Intuit will be comfortable with the performance and defect fixes to officially announce 2014 availability.

(REAL NAME)    Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Quicken Deluxe 2014 (Software) I've used Quicken to track my finances since it first came out. I don't upgrade with every release so I went from Quicken 2011 to Quicken 2014. I love the new features. Way back there was a dedicated Quicken device, Pocket Quicken I believe, that you could carry with you that would sync up with your PC Quicken account when you got home. That device went away a long time ago and I've missed losing that functionality. With Quicken 2014 I can now enter my transactions while I'm out rather than have to save my receipts or remember what I bought and enter into Quicken on my PC. Now I can just enter transactions while I'm out and click sync on my PC when I get back home and it's all there. I also love being able to take a picture of my receipt and having it upload and saved in my Quicken file. For me, these two features make this the best upgrade ever.
