I originally could not use the state file that I paid for with this product. Turbo Tax was prompting me to pay an additional $39.99 for a product that I had just paid the same amount for here on Amazon.

This is how I fixed my problem:

1) Saved my current work file in Turbo Tax.
2) Closed the Turbo Tax software completely.
3) Re-started Turbo Tax.
4) Opened my previous work file and my missing state file started without an issue.

I hope this information will help other users

Seems like people either love or hate TT. If you've used it for years like I have, it is so simple to move over your previous years return plus any accumulated capital losses that may go back a couple of years (a big plus for me). I don't have a particularly complicated return - no partnerships or LLC's, just your basic income and expenses but TT has pointed out more than one deduction I would have missed on a manual basis. And besides, who really wants to plow through the convoluted IRS forms! As always, the early release is subject to numerous updates before it's complete so don't buy it early if you want to file and be done. I like to get it as early as possible so I can do some year end tax planning based upon my overall tax picture and it's perfect for that. I do wish they would start including a free state e-file in the deluxe fed + state version but good old Intuit loves to nickel and dime its customers to death and when you own the vast majority of the market you can get away with it, unfortunately.

I downloaded the Quicken 2014 tonight and every time I start it I get a error message that causes the program to close.

After reading the bad reviews, and against my better judgment, I downloaded the 2014 version. I have never been more disappointed with a software program. I literally can't even start the program. I think all my information is lost.

I like the way the homescreen can be sized and moved to cover the whole screen in 2014. I keep mine covering the screen, it's a lot easier to move around in QuickBooks for Mac that way. I also like the Income Tracker because all customer activity is in one place so I can see what I need to be doing next to bring cash into the business, and that's always what needs to be done first and last every day, so it helps me to stay focused on my most important tasks. There is online banking, attached documents, and I could go on and on, but the Income Tracker is what makes this new 2014 version worth spending a few dollars on.

QuickBooks Pro 2014 (Software) It's forcing me to rate it . I cant really rate on how it works because now i need a new computer to use QB Pro 2014.. I was told by my accountant to upgrade to QB 2014 since he can not work with the program that is older then 2012. I am currently using QB Pro 2011 for my auto repair shop. I have been using Intuit since 1997. I tried to install it on my Main computer. It told me I need 1 GB. I was reading the requirements & it said vista , windows 7 & 8 etc. So since I am still on windows XP , I can not run QB 2014. So not happy now, I was really excited to upgrade now its costing me way more money that I don't have.

Quicken 2014 did not hurt me, whew! I say that because Quicken 2013 was a nightmare, and yet it was a relief from 2012 which completely messed up my favorite feature, the budget. I update Quicken every year as I have since the early 1990's. I've long since given up looking for new features. Now what I look for is a product that brings back the ones I used to like, makes them quicken and merges with mint as a single product. I use Quicken for all of my accounts as I do mint. Each brings something to the table. Don't waste your time on the quicken mobile version. Use mint for that. I'm afraid to even try it this year. After synching, it really messed up data in 2013.

So, here are the new "features" I'm observing in 2014:

1. It installed quickly and ran right away, converting my data without complaint.

2. One step update still works! It still has the checkbox for only showing the summary dialog if no errors, but there are always errors. Only now it shows errors but when I expand the list everything is green! In other words it things something is wrong but is keeping it from me.

3. The budget is still there, looks exactly the same but is a bit more sluggish. Must be lots of stuff going on behind the scenes.

4. All those shortcut keys that have been there for years and years no longer work! For example, hit ctl-g or ctl-f from the register and the computer goes booooinngg and nothing else happens! I think you have some focus issues to fix because the menus still show the keys available.

5. After one step update the register still returns you to the end, not to the current day marker, something I've hoped for for years and seems obvious as I add data way ahead of the current date. Doesn't everyone?

6. The budget still likes to randomly place you anywhere in the budget which is just a glorified, slower spreadsheet just like before.

7. Registers scroll a little more sluggishly, sweet! And, to top that off, it scrolls ahead on you so that if you lean a little too hard on the scroll keys you'll find yourself back in 2004!

Sorry that this is such a sarcastic review, but I'm assuming that all of this was intentional. Any SQA person would have noticed these things in the first 10 minutes so they must be features, not bugs.

By the way, I still recommend Quicken to people (and mint), but only because there is no competition, which I'm sure comes up in the release go/no-go meetings as a decision point.

I've been a Quicken user since 1998. Nothing else comes close to the features that this software offers, and I use just about all of them. It almost does everything I want it to do, almost. It does not track restricted stock units (RSU's) or anything with an odd vesting schedule without playing crazy games. The vehicle mileage tracker allows "Rental Property" for the trip type, but it will not let you name which rental property. And other arcane examples.

It is reasonably stable. I just upgraded to the 2014 version from 2011. I have not seen much stability increase in the 2014 version over 2011, it still crashes occasionally (probably about once a week), usually during or just after a One Step Update. It does appear to be better at hanging onto downloaded data through a crash however. Older versions would randomly forget downloaded transactions after a crash, 2014 appears to remember them. Maybe its the size of the data file. My QDF file is over 200MB now and contains 15 years worth of data.

A couple gripes I have: I keep getting faster and faster computers, and Quicken continues to run slower and slower. 2014 suffers badly from slow screen updates, and appears to repaint the screen multiple times after nearly every entry. It gets a little frustrating, watching the spinning circle after simple events such as accepting a downloaded transaction, knowing that my time is being wasted by what probably amounts to lazy programming (I'm a programmer, I know how these things work).

Quicken also suffers from some persistent and stupid bugs that have been there for years. For example, in the vehicle mileage tracker, it gets way to aggressive in auto-filling the text fields, to a point where it overwrites a value that I just entered. Then, when I save the entry, the screen spastically cycles through every entry I ever entered, showing each entry in the text fields for a brief few milliseconds before showing the next one, and I watch my entire history flash before my eyes. C'mon, Intuit, don't you ever test this stuff? This bug has been in there ever since the mileage tracker was introduced several years ago.

2014 did not add any features over 2011 other than a mobile app. It's more of a maintenance release that didn't change anything except a few UI tweaks. Upgrades are forced by the sunset provision every 3 years.

Having said all this, I will continue to use this software, as nothing else comes close. Nuisance bugs and miscellaneous problems aside, this is a good package for managing personal finances that may be more complex than many web or tablet-based packages can handle. Web-based packages are way too light on features and I have not found anything that offers the amount of investing tools, business tools (small business, anyway), reporting, etc. that Quicken has. I hope that Intuit does not abandon this software in favor of lightweight tablet-based apps or web apps.
